Stuff I Read is a blog where I review the various novels I read. I mainly read historical fiction, historical non-fiction (usually biographies), military non-fiction, political non-fiction, fantasy and science fiction, and occasionally sport-related non-fiction.

I am particularly interested in the following historical periods:

  • Arthurian mythology and literature (c. 500)
  • Age of Discovery or Gunpowder-era warfare (1550-1820)
  • Late Roman Empire-era warfare (300-476)
  • Early-to-High Middle Ages-era warfare (500-1300)
  • England and British Empire (all of it)
  • Imperial Russia (980s-1918)
  • Soviet-era and the Cold War (1918-1991)

My favourite authors are Bernard Cornwell, George MacDonald Fraser, C.S. Forester and Richard Holmes. I hope you find my reviews helpful and interesting enough to go out and read some of these stories yourself.

Enjoyed visiting your site/reviews. I started way back with Forester, probably not more than 10 years old, when I read Midshipman … If you haven’t read them, the books by Delderfield that are set in Iberia are much like Forester IMO.

I haven’t, indeed I’m rather ashamed to say I haven’t even heard of Delderfield! I’ll have to track some down.

    Hi Rhys

My name’s Tom Mcloughlin and i work for Edelman PR on behalf of Harper Collins.

We have a book that we thought you may be interested in reading called Outcasts United that will be released soon. It is a true story about a football team made up of a group of refugee children in the US. I saw you are interested in some sport related non fiction so may fancy giving this one a read.

If so drop me an email and i can tell you some more about it.
